Why the Veil Feels Thinner in October

You’ve probably heard people say the veil is thin this time of year.
Even if you’re not totally sure what that means, you’ve likely felt it. The air feels heavier, your emotions sit closer to the surface, and your intuition suddenly feels louder.

Some people love this time of year for that exact reason. Others feel it more intensely and aren’t quite sure why. Both make sense. The energy really does shift in October, and most of us can feel it in our own way.

So, what is the veil?

The veil is a way of describing the space between what we can see and what we can sense. It’s the layer that separates the physical world from the energetic one, the seen from the unseen, the living from the Spirit world.

When the veil feels thin, that layer softens. The space between the worlds feels lighter and easier to sense. You might notice your awareness expand, your intuition sharpen, or a stronger sense that there’s more happening than what your eyes can see.

It’s not about ghosts or the supernatural. It’s about energy, connection, and awareness, the things we can all feel when we slow down enough to notice.

October Is a Threshold

October sits right in the middle of things. Not fully summer, not quite winter. It’s that awkward in-between where nature starts turning inward and the light softens just enough to make you feel it.

After the autumn equinox, everything begins to slow. The days shorten. Plants pull back into the roots. Animals prepare to rest. The world exhales. And because we’re part of nature too, we shift with it. The busyness fades, our attention turns inward and things we’ve been too distracted to feel start to surface.

That’s why October can feel emotional, nostalgic or just heavy. The line between what’s seen and unseen gets thinner because everything quiets down enough for us to notice it.

A Season That’s Always Been About Connection

People have felt this shift for centuries. This season has always been about connection, between the living and the spirit world, between endings and beginnings.

It’s also one of the witchiest times of the year, and not just because Hollywood says so. Sure, there are broomsticks, black hats, and cauldrons everywhere right now, but underneath all that is something real. This season wakes up the part of you that’s always known how to work with energy, the part that lights a candle, stirs intention into what you make and listens when something in the air feels different.

It’s the season for rituals that don’t always look like rituals. Cooking soup that feels like medicine. Writing something you’re ready to release and burning it. Setting intentions for what’s next while honouring what’s already complete.

But it’s not just about remembering who came before us. It’s also about letting go of what’s run its course, old habits, outgrown roles, the parts of you that don’t need to come with you into winter.

The veil might make Spirit feel closer, but it also makes your truth louder.

How You Might Feel It

For some, this season brings sharper intuition or wild, movie-level dreams. For others, it’s emotions coming up out of nowhere, a sudden craving for quiet or feeling wiped out by crowded places.

None of that means something’s wrong. It means you’re picking up on more. You’re tuned in. And when your awareness heightens, life feels louder. That’s not a bad thing. It’s a sign you’re syncing with the season. This isn’t the time to push harder. It’s the time to listen differently.

When It Feels Like Too Much

Let’s be honest, sometimes this energy can feel like a lot. The dark stretches longer, the quiet gets deeper and suddenly every shadow feels like it’s whispering something.

If that’s you, take a breath. You’re not powerless in this energy. You’re still in charge of what’s welcome in your space.

If things start to feel off, ground yourself.
Light a candle. Open a window.
Say it out loud: “Only love and light are welcome here.”

Energy listens when you’re clear.

Working With October Energy

You don’t have to do anything fancy to connect. You just have to notice what’s already happening.

Try this:

  • Journal about what’s shifting in you. What’s ending? What feels ready to rest?

  • Light a candle and say thank you, to your ancestors, your guides or simply to the season itself.

  • Move energy through your body. Stretch, walk, dance or clean.

  • Let fresh air in. It clears more than you think.

  • Pay attention to what feels heavier or more alive. That’s information.

You don’t need to open more or chase connection. It’s already here. Your job is to stay anchored enough to feel it.

This season isn’t here to spook you. It’s here to remind you that energy never really disappears, it just shifts. You’re part of that movement.
Stay present, stay grounded, and trust that you’re right where you need to be.
